Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Prescriva, our treatments, and how we work.

What is Prescriva?
Prescriva is a telehealth platform that connects patients with independently licensed clinicians (NPs and MDs) who can prescribe compounded medications for weight loss. We handle everything, including the consultation, medication, and shipping, through a single, transparent monthly subscription.
Is Prescriva a medical practice?
Prescriva is a management services organization (MSO) that provides the technology platform and administrative support. All medical services, including consultations, diagnoses, and prescribing, are provided by independently licensed healthcare providers through our partner network.
What states do you serve?
We currently serve most US states. During the assessment, we'll confirm whether our services are available in your state. We're actively expanding our provider network to serve more locations.
How long does the process take?
The online assessment takes about 4 minutes. A licensed clinician reviews your information within 24-48 hours. If approved, your medication typically ships within 2-3 business days with free priority shipping.
What are compounded GLP-1 medications?
Compounded GLP-1 medications are prepared by licensed compounding pharmacies using semaglutide or tirzepatide as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. They are NOT the same as, equivalent to, or substitutes for FDA-approved brand-name products like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or quality.
How do GLP-1 medications work?
GLP-1 medications mimic a natural hormone that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar. They work by signaling fullness to your brain (reducing hunger), slowing digestion (keeping you satisfied longer), and helping stabilize blood sugar levels.
What's the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide?
Semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic/Wegovy) targets the GLP-1 receptor. Tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro/Zepbound) targets both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, which is called a dual-action mechanism. Your provider will help determine which is best for your health profile.
What's the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide injections?
Both are weekly injections. Semaglutide targets the GLP-1 receptor and is our most popular option. Tirzepatide targets both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, which is sometimes called a dual-action mechanism. Your provider will discuss which option may be appropriate based on your health profile and goals. Compounded formulations have not been evaluated by the FDA and individual results vary.
How quickly will I see results?
Most patients notice reduced appetite within 1-2 weeks. Meaningful weight loss typically begins after the initial 4-6 week titration period. In clinical trials of GLP-1 medications, participants lost an average of 1–2 lbs per week during active weight loss phases when combined with diet and exercise. Individual results vary significantly. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide have not been independently evaluated in clinical trials.
What if I've tried GLP-1 medications before?
Prior GLP-1 experience is not a disqualifier. In fact, it can help your provider tailor your treatment plan. Be sure to mention your history during the assessment so your provider has full context.
What's included in the monthly price?
Everything: clinician consultation, compounded medication, free priority shipping, progress tracking tools, and 24/7 care team support. Your monthly subscription is the only charge; there are no membership fees or surprise bills.
Why is the first month cheaper?
The first month includes your initial consultation and a lower starter dose as your body adjusts to the medication. Starting at a low dose helps minimize side effects. Subsequent months include your full therapeutic dose at the standard price.
Can I use HSA/FSA funds?
Yes. Clinician-prescribed GLP-1 weight loss medications are typically eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement. We provide itemized receipts for easy submission to your benefits provider.
Do I need insurance?
No insurance is required. Our pricing includes everything. Many patients choose Prescriva specifically because brand-name GLP-1s can cost $1,000+/month without insurance, while our compounded alternatives start at $99/month.
What's your refund policy?
If your healthcare provider determines you're not eligible for medication, you receive a full refund. Medications that have been compounded and shipped cannot be returned per pharmacy regulations. See our Terms of Service for full details.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel anytime through your patient dashboard or by contacting help@prescriva.com. There are no cancellation fees or penalties. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.
What are the common side effects?
The most common side effects are mild nausea (especially in the first few weeks), decreased appetite, diarrhea, constipation, and mild stomach pain. These typically improve as your body adjusts to the medication. Your care team is available 24/7 if you have concerns.
Who should not use GLP-1 medications?
GLP-1 medications are not appropriate for people with: a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), Type 1 diabetes, a known allergy to semaglutide or tirzepatide, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Are compounded medications safe?
Our medications are prepared by state-licensed 503A compounding pharmacies that follow strict quality controls and are inspected by state boards of pharmacy. However, compounded medications are not FDA-approved and have not undergone the same clinical trials as brand-name drugs. Your licensed clinician will discuss the benefits and risks with you.
How is my health data protected?
Your health information is protected under HIPAA. We use end-to-end encryption, strict access controls, and comprehensive audit logging. We never sell your data or share it with third parties for marketing purposes. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I create an account?
You'll create an account during the assessment quiz process. After completing the quiz and receiving provider approval, you'll set up your login credentials to access your patient dashboard.
How do I contact my care team?
Once you're a Prescriva patient, you can message your care team directly through your patient dashboard. For urgent concerns, email help@prescriva.com. For medical emergencies, always call 911.
Can I pause my subscription?
Yes, you can pause your subscription through your patient dashboard. Your account and progress data will be preserved so you can resume treatment whenever you're ready.
